Diversity Research Project

Teacher: Tara Nakata

Project Description

Students applied all the skills that they learned in this library research course to learn about topics related to the idea or theme of “diversity”. This culminating project was an informative, detailed presentation designed to share findings with an audience composed of classmates, instructor, and at least one other Lahainaluna High School staff member. The process that students went through to ultimately present before their audience was complex. Students chose to read a novel that they thought would features diverse characters. They then were required to record their thoughts, reflections, and ideas before making connections in their response logs. The next step involved carefully selecting a research topic that was related to the diversity themes presented in their book choice. Class time with Ms. Nakata was used to decide how best to narrow down research topics and to organize thoughts in preparation for the presentation.
