Novel Story Project

Teacher: Sara Murphy

Project Description

The goal of this ongoing assignment was to try to have students connect to a novel in a different way than just being able to say who the characters are and what happens. Students were challenged to connect to characters, understand motivations, and discover meanings. Students were also encouraged to have an on going focus on how to respond to literature beyond story elements by searching for meaning within the text. This collaborative project also required that students comment on their peer's work by focusing on connections and commonalities between two different stories.

Culture Posters

Teacher: Sydney Villegas, PhD

Project Description

The overarching theme of English 10 focuses on perspectives across cultures. We explore our own cultural identities and examine how cultural experiences shape our identity and perceptions. We also study how cultures are represented in various types of literature. For this project, the goal is to define culture and describe the components that make up a culture. The students were grouped and given different google meet links like breakout rooms to brainstorm, discuss, and come up with a poster that represents their views, symbols, and concepts on culture. Since this is a collaborative task, members can express their views and share their research on the topic.

All projects in this class made the whole class realize that in order to build successful communities, they need to understand and appreciate many cultures, establish relationships with people from cultures other than their own, and build strong alliances with different cultural groups.

Choice Boards

Teacher: Sydney Villegas, PhD

Project Description

Students choose from the choice board the project that best demonstrates their learning. These students have undertaken the project-based process of planning, drafting, revising, and launching the projects. Students presented their projects to the class online using the Present feature in google meet. A Question and Answer (Q & A) followed each presentation allowing students further introspective analysis of their work on this project.
